There are a wide variety of illnesses, syndromes and complications being associated with Celiac Disease. Unfortunately, on-going
research is slow. We have tried to present here a short list of autoimmune conditions which are known to occur either at a greater
rate than the general population or appear to be linked in someway to CD/DH. This list is not all-inclusive.
For up-to-date published studies please visit our "Medical Listings" on the General Info links page.

Some studies have shown that persons newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes may be
more likely to develop celiac disease within 4 years; so children with type 1
diabetes may need annual screening for several years. Regular screening for
celiac disease (every 3 years) may be recommended for other persons with type 1
diabetes. It is estimated that 1 in 10 to 1 in 20 persons with type 1 diabetes
has celiac disease. Persons with type 2 diabetes have the same odds of
developing celiac disease as the general public. |
